The "Planet Erde" globe makes it possible to visualize a multitude of astronomical concepts;

-earth rotation on its axis,
-duration of the day,
-solstitial points ...

The lit globe illustrates the concept of day, the 3 zones of twilight, ...
A luminous point indicates the sub-solar zone, i.e. the place where the sun does not create any shade at midday.
All these concepts can be observed for a given day-hour-place by an adjustment of the dial at the foot of the globe.

The sphere is shipped complete with its instruction manual of 44 pages (in english).

The Panorama map.

The ground-vegetation * map (switched off) shows the earth's surface; in brown the high mountains , in various greens the conifer forests, the tropical forests, the cultivated zones, in yellow and ochre the savannas, the steppes, the deserts and in white the polar areas or the glaciers.
The chart political * map (switched on) shows the countries in various colours.

We don't just print our globes; we strive to create an incredibly deep, flawless shine. It all starts in our state-of-the-art 'clean printing room', where our craftsmen work just with superior acrylic sheets. Bringing in all kind of papers is strictly forbidden, because it would bring in fine paper dust particles which could later be attracted in the printing process. Printing up to 18 successive layers of colors, there's a curing process between each layer, along with an inspection and careful cleaning. Once the printing is complete, a high gloss clear coat layer is applied over the entire map, than it is sent back for inspection to our cartographic department.
Unmistakable COLUMBUS cartography: Splendour of Elegance.

Paul Oestergaard created Columbus in 1909.
Torsten Oestergaard

Established 1909 in Germany, COLUMBUS is the oldest globe manufacturer in the World.

COLUMBUS quickly became and continue to be the World's best-selling line of luxury globes ( Chaplin chose in 1940 the Columbus globe "Die Erde" for his world famous film).
Popular features such as internal illumination (1948), dual-mapping (1955), the Day and Night Globe (1972) were all innovations introduced by Columbus globes.

While being innovators and leaders, Columbus is also focused on preservation of traditional globe manufacturing processes such as the exclusive mouth-blowing of crystal spheres and the hand laminating of cartography.

mark: 5 on 5. I have not been able to check the globe out fully as it is a Christmas present and as such it is not in my keeping at present. If you wish comments after Christmas I would be happy to give them to you. Globe looks good from a quick inspection.

mark: 5 on 5. The globe is exactly what I had been looking for. The relief view and political view show good detail. The facility to set the globe to a particular date/ time works well. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

mark: 4 on 5. Article arrived undamaged and was exactly as described. Only problem was the bulb did not work so had to go out and buy a new one. Hence 4* rating.

mark: 3 on 5. A globe in a good quality, what you can expect in that price range. But, disappointed with the boundaries for the mid day sun. Around 20th december we have midwinter day. The darkest day of the year. At that time the sun is not seen above the arctic circle any time of the day. According to the light in the globe, the arctic circle have moved south about 1300 km in the vicinity of Stockholm/Helsinki/Oslo area. For the midsummer day around the 20th June, the sun never sets above the arctic circle, but the midsummer sun on your gloobe is seen as far south as mid Sweden about 800 - 1000 km south of the arctic circle. Would appreciate a comment from Geodus. Kent
